Hey looky here! some sketchtastic/colour comp goodness, soon to be paintastic goodness.
A wee sketch for some type graphics that have been brewing my brain and….
my typical second step after the initial sketch. The image is scanned in and I do a very rough colour comp to get an idea of how I want the painting to play out. The colours here are by no means final, but they’re on the way!
That’s all for now folks!
Wowza. Nearly a month since my last post. Sorry kids, but life did as it will and I’ve been crazy busy these past weeks. But to keep you interested (and add some meat to this post) here’s a sketch done for a tattoo design. The idea of having my art carved into someone that isn’t me is exciting… and a little daunting.
In other news. The website redesign begins this weekend! After my computer bit the big one I lost my last update. So, it’s back to the drawing board. Look for it to hit near the end of April. Also keep an eye out for a new post in the next few weeks talking about portfolios and what the hell to do with ‘em.
A friend of mine has put together this wonderful event in support of the Barbra Shlifer Clinic for Women. All proceeds go towards a wonderful cause and the night promises to be a blast! Be there. I will.
Here’s the Facebook event page: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=189297824435243 GO RSVP!
Ahh …Valentine’s Day. You’re here again, are you? And what’s that? Everyone’s complaining and or being disgustingly lovey dovey? … You may want to stop reading this post if that’s the case.
That’s not to say that I’m about to spill out a poem from deep in some valve of my heart, not my style. See I tend to get stranger ideas around this time of year, with special man friend or without; I tend to get a bit reflective. I dwell on how we express feelings towards one another and the unspoken social faux pas attached to them. But wait, I’m getting off topic and subjecting you a to a rant I did not mean to. Let me sum up, it’s a reflective mood, not pessimistic and, honestly, I’m not a Valentine’s Grinch and I do want to make sure my special man friend is aware of his level of specialness.
So, I decided to get to the point this year, no jewelry (Don’t look at me like that, it could have happened) no cards, no chocolates (I ate them all…) No convoluted silliness, just a simple and clear expression of the aforementioned specialness.
I think it worked. I got a nerf gun
Totsapalooza time!! and this time is bigger than ever. Why? It’s Franklin’s 25th birthday! (Honestly, That turtle’s lookin’ mighty young for twenty-five…..Webster, anyone?)
Go get your tickets at www.smallprinttoronto.org and join in the celebrations on Feb. 27th!
Oh sleep. One day I rue your existence, the next I’m sending flowers and calling you until your message machine is full and my only recourse is to stand out side your window at two in the morning with a boom box pumping Peter Gabriel. Please come back, sleep. I didn’t mean it.
One upside of night owl tendencies, however, is the increase in work flow. It excites the hell out of me! Already I have one painting down, one that should be finished later this week and another that should be drafted onto board by the end of the day. I love this feeling. LOVE IT!
All rants aside, I did promise a more in depth post this week and I intend to deliver. As previously mentioned I finished a private commission last week and now that they’ve approved it I can share it with you!
Thumbnail and colour sketch (they get bigger if you click)….
And the final. 3.3 feet by 2.5 feet on wooden panel. (Yes, I need a new camera.)
Note: I just finished drafting the new painting. Yeah, baby, yeah.
Okay, I’m going to be a bit of a jerk today. How? I’m only going to post a sketch, since I’m up to my eye balls in work. So, until I have a bit more time to post some of the goodies brewing in the studio you will have to settle for this — A tattoo idea turned tie I did for one of my favorite people in the world. I’ll post photo’s of the tie at a later date.
Let me be honest, I’ve been back for a while, but shortly after my vacation came to an end, my computer decided to take one of it’s own – A permanent one. One minute it was there and working just peachy, the next it was kapoot. No hard drive, no operating system, no nothing, just a heart attack inducing blank screen.
It turns out that my hard drive had enough and simply erased itself. No two weeks notice, just “F*** you, I quit”. At any other time, this wouldn’t be a big deal. I’d just trade in the old computer, get a new one and fill it with the information from my back-up drive. The problem this time was that my trusty back up had also failed a few weeks earlier. S***!
After much freaking and peaking, some moments of despondence and maybe a tear or two, I was lucky enough to have a co-worker volunteer to recover the files from my misbehaving back-up and recover them he did. The hitch? Seems I had been a negligent backer upper; I lost anything I had worked on since March of last year. All the client files, all of my children’s book (Yeah, you heard me…more about that at a later date) music, photos, all of the last 9 months. Needless to say I’m still a little heart broken over it.
The lesson here? Back up your information like your life depends on it, your business certainly does.
Stay tuned for image laden posts over the next little while. Sketches and progress shots comin’ your way!
A few more days and I’ll be on vacation, off to the wilds of Northern Ontario. Thank [insert preferred deity here]. This could have come a lot sooner, considering my stress levels are so high they’ll take at least a week to normalize.
Some how I manage to do this to myself every year. The Christmas season starts, I’m not happy about it but I feel prepared to handle all the madness about to rain down on my December, but as the weeks pass and that jolly old fat man gets nearer and nearer my stress levels get higher and higher. Sadly, I don’t even notice until it’s too late and I look into the mirror to realize there is a dark eyed monster staring back at me and that most of my friends are boycotting me until said monster goes back into hibernation.
But as I said, just a few more days and I will bus it out of the city and head north to relaxation and holiday celebrations. It will be glorious.
Hopefully your holiday lead-up has been a bit calmer than mine, if not let me recommend some spiked egg nog and chocolate, lots of chocolate. It is the holidays after all.
Have a wonderful and safe Christmas or [insert preferred celebration here] everyone. I’ll catch you on the flip side.
