Good Morning, Kids!

Ahhhhh…The move is complete. Everything is unpacked and I’m giddy, well, no, I’m too tired to be giddy, but give me a few days of sleep and I’ll be bouncing off walls faster than you can say “Pong Tournament”. Needless to say, things are good.

Even with the post-move exhaustion, and night classes (Upgrade!) I’ve still found time to get a few things done. I too have fallen prey to the random joy of sketch-a-day posts. So if you have liked me on Facebook, follow me on Twitter or have added me to a circle on Google+ (Holy social media, Batman!) then keep your eye out for some daily doodles.

Another thing to be checked off the list is the beauty below! Finishing touches were added last night. It’s a bit more opaque than my previous paintings and, so far, I’m liking the change…

Until next time!

Let me be honest, I’ve been back for a while, but shortly after my vacation came to an end, my computer decided to take one of it’s own – A permanent one. One minute it was there and working just peachy, the next it was kapoot. No hard drive, no operating system, no nothing, just a heart attack inducing blank screen.

It turns out that my hard drive had enough and simply erased itself. No two weeks notice, just “F*** you, I quit”. At any other time, this wouldn’t be a big deal. I’d just trade in the old computer, get a new one and fill it with the information from my back-up drive. The problem this time was that my trusty back up had also failed a few weeks earlier. S***!

After much freaking and peaking, some moments of despondence and maybe a tear or two, I was lucky enough to have a co-worker volunteer to recover the files from my misbehaving back-up and recover them he did. The hitch? Seems I had been a negligent backer upper; I lost anything I had worked on since March of last year. All the client files, all of my children’s book (Yeah, you heard me…more about that at a later date) music, photos, all of the last 9 months. Needless to say I’m still a little heart broken over it.

The lesson here? Back up your information like your life depends on it, your business certainly does.

Stay tuned for image laden posts over the next little while. Sketches and progress shots comin’ your way!

One question: Did y’all forget Christmas was coming or is logo design the new Tiffany necklace?

I’m so freakin’ busy! I’ve been staring at my poor neglected paintings for days now as I sit on my computer doing diagrams for books and researching for logo designs. Every so often I get a paint brush in my hand, but it too is client related.

By no means am I complaining, the painting and logo work is a ton of fun, but I am aghast at the amount of people popping out of the wood work with projects just before the holiday season. So, to shorten this rant as much as possible, I’ll get to the point. I have some updated photos for your hungry eyes, but they might be a few days in coming while I dig myself out of this snow drift of design work.

While you wait for that. The painting sale is still going strong! Get some of those names crossed off you list with style! (If you’re worried about delivery timing and such please email me, there are options for everyone) More paintings to be posted to the sale tomorrow morning.

Here I go again! I’m moving for the LAST TIME, well at least the last time this year. It’s been a tough four months between moving, new jobs and generally restructuring life. Things have been chaotic and, to say the least, trying. But karma has been there to remind me that hard work and perseverance are rewarded. It all pays off in the end.

Two more weeks and the studio will be back in full force. It’s going to be like sliding into a hot bath after a long day. Pure bliss.

P.S. The painting sale is still afoot… more work to be added next week.

I want to be a five year old. I’m convinced everything would be right again with the world and any disappointment with it would be replaced by ignorant bliss of the most naive kind.. No bills, no rent, no cooking (Easy bake doesn’t count), no cleaning, no responsibility beyond brushing your teeth. Ahhh, childhood. The problem with this is people might look twice at a smoking, beer swilling five year old. Wait, no beer. Forget it.

It’s been a trying week so this might be a long one…

You see, I damaged my shoulder two weeks ago while working out. The first day I was okay with the sling. I took some time to relax, watch a few dvds and eat chicken. Not my finest portrait but, in this case, unavoidable and entirely appropriate.

The next morning I woke up and went about my morning routine, mildly annoyed with the sling, but all in all things were working out. I bundled up for the cold, hitched my arm up in the sling and trundled off to work.

Problems started here. First was the question “What happened to your arm? ” this has been by far the most prolific. Even complete strangers, people who wouldn’t be compelled to do so much as say hello on a normal day, will approach me to ask if it hurts and how I did it. By this point I’ve started making up creative stories such as wrestling with a bear in a Wyoming nature reserve.

The special reactions of course were from the state-the-obvious Club. “Oh my gawd! You hurt your arm!” They say. In high school I dyed my hair a myriad of colours from blue and purple to a full out rainbow and far, far to often I would get a disturbingly similar statement: “Oh my gawd! Your hair is Purple!” My reaction was simple. I looked at the person, my eyes widened and I screamed “DEAR GOD NOT AGAIN!” and promptly ran into the nearest bathroom. Sadly I think my only solution here is to keep telling people I saved a group of children from a burning bus rather than run screaming through the art gallery. Security might frown on it.

As of today it’s been 14 days since I first started wearing the sling and FINALLY I’m allowed to take it off! I feel like a semi-whole person again! It will take some more time to heal but things are looking optimistic. Spring is on it’s way, Space Age Rodeo is this weekend, I got projects aplenty and I’ve got some more art to share with you folks … Life’s pretty shiny.
